We'll Review LWVR Position VII
April 23, 2026

LWVR's  Local Program Planning meeting was held on February 11.  It was determined that, although there is no need to change our positions, we should review their language and consider revisions that would broaden their application.

We will meet for an hour once a month. The first meeting will be April 23rd at 7pm on Zoom to discuss:  Position VII:  Richardson ISD and Schools in Plano ISD That Serve Richardson Students.

Our positions may be found here .

Although only LWVR members can vote to make changes to a position, we invite the larger community to attend a meeting to review our positions.  We welcome your insight in proposing updated language for our positions.  We will publish in the VOTER which position will be up for discussion the following month. Your specialized expertise and knowledge will be invaluable in this process and we hope to hear your input at one or more meetings!

Registering voters to kick off the “Year of the Fire Horse”

The Voter Registration arm of LWVR participated in the City of Richardson’s Lunar New Year celebration.  This was a great opportunity to speak to people about the March 3rd primary election.   With such a well-attended event, we were able to distribute Voters Guides, to share information about voting locations and voting processes, and, of course, to register voters.

We had many people tell us they use our information and have depended on VOTE411.org for valuable nonpartisan information in past elections. Our being out in the community and visible has made a difference. If you would like to help in future voter registration efforts, contact us at VoterReg@lwvrichardson.org.

Cathy Murphree and her team of VDR’s have been coordinating with the Dallas League to reach out at Richland College and other campuses in the Dallas College system. Those volunteers have encountered enthusiasm about voting as well. For more information, email VoterReg@lwvrichardson.org.

Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP)

CHIP and Children’s Medicaid have been well received by Texas families and these programs help to assure that our children have adequate preventative care in addition to coverage for more complex medical care.  It is much more cost effective to provide immunizations, check-ups, and early intervention in childhood illnesses than to wait for a problem to develop into an emergency.

LWVRichardson is a long-time supporter of these programs.  Members can help with an application help session:

Saturday, April 18
9 a.m.-noon
St. Barnabas Presbyterian Church
1220 W. Belt Line Road
Richardson 75080

Families who do not have coverage through their employment such as seasonal workers, employees who work part-time, grandparents who are raising their grandchildren on a fixed income, those who are currently unemployed, and teenagers who are “on their own” are some of our neighbors who might have eligible children.  Please invite anyone you think may be interested to be with us on April 18.

For more information, please contact Martha Dorris.
