Preparations for the November Election
| It’s been a busy month for Voter Service. At the local level, we have been researching and writing content for the Voter Guide for the November election. Voters in the Richardson Independent School District will be voting on a large bond package. So, our local Voter Service Committee has been working diligently to compile nonpartisan information to assist RISD voters in making informed decisions about how to vote.
A State Level Committee has compiled nonpartisan information on the State-wide Constitutional Amendments which will be on the ballot for all Texas Voters. Part of their work includes short, unbiased explainer videos on each of the 17 propositions. The videos clearly explain the arguments for and against each proposition. Our own Caroline Wang speaks on three of the amendments (Amendments 3, 11, and 13). Click here to see the videos.
The plan is that the LWVTX Guides will be mailed October 1 and as soon as they arrive, we will insert our RISD School Bond Package information and deliver them to the libraries and recreation centers in our community. If you would like to help with this process, please contact me at marknita@sbcglobal.net. Printed voters guides and www.vote411.org should be available by October 6, 2025.
Under the amazing leadership of Janet Centola and Cathy Murphree, the Richardson League is playing a significant role in registering voters locally.
However, LWVRichardson has been informed that the University of Texas system now prohibits volunteers from registering eligible voters on campus unless the volunteers are invited by a university faculty/staff member or organization and accompanied by the inviter at all times while on campus. Also, the LWVRichardson/LWVDallas/LWVCollin coalition has been informed by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) of North Texas that we can no longer register voters after naturalization ceremonies. Since January, 2025, over 11,000 new citizens had been registered to vote by our coalition. |
Voter Registration Activities
| Voter registration activities have been in full swing and will continue through October. We have had activities focusing on young voters, older voters and everyone in between. We thank the many who have helped in a variety of settings.
September was National Voter Registration Month. This year we widened our efforts by distributing mail in registration material to PTA members, senior living facility staff, college organizations and community-based organizations who agreed to distribute mail in registration forms in their organizations. This was on top of the many registration events manned by LWVR’s wonderful volunteers.
October 6th is the deadline for registering to vote in the November election. After that we will be out and about providing voter information and helping to distribute printed copies of the voter guide.
Volunteers are always welcomed! Please email to VoterReg@LWVRICHARDSON.ORG if you are interested in helping out this fall or in the future. | |
We are filled with gratitude to everyone who supported the LWVRichardson on North Texas Giving Day 2025. Because of you, we are able to support our efforts to provide nonpartisan, accurate election information to voters by sponsoring candidate forums and producing nonpartisan Voters Guides. We also conduct voter registration drives and produce a local Guide to Elected Officials.
You made a difference. Thank you.

Our Annual Fundraising Campaign
| Our annual fundraising campaign will begin on October 15. LWVR relies on contributions made by local community members and businesses to continue to provide the Voter services that we are known for. Please consider making a donation.

Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP)/
Medicaid for Children
| CHIP and Children’s Medicaid have been well received by Texas families and these programs help to assure that our children have adequate preventive care in addition to coverage for more complex medical care. It is much more cost effective to provide immunizations, check-ups, and early intervention in childhood illnesses than to wait for a problem to develop into an emergency.
The LWVRichardson is a long-time supporter of these programs. Members can help with an application help session at St. Barnabas Presbyterian Church. During our September help session, four families received assistance. Marcie Salamone and Martha Dorris were there for encouragement and screening.
Families who do not have coverage through their employment such as seasonal workers, employees who work part-time, grandparents who are raising their grandchildren on a fixed income, those who are currently unemployed, and teenagers who are “on their own” are some of our neighbors who might have eligible children. Please invite anyone you think may be interested.
We have the following CHIP/Children's Medicaid application help session dates planned:
- Saturday, October 18 2025
- Saturday, November 15, 2025
- Saturday, January 17, 2026
- Saturday, February 14, 2026
- Saturday, March 7, 2026
- Saturday, April 18, 2026
All Help Sessions will be

St. Barnabas Presbyterian Church
