The Richardson Civic Center is NOT a Vote Center for
Early Voting or for Election Day Voting
| The Richardson Civic Center is closed indefinitely due to the fire on August 22, 2022, that caused significant damage.
The Richardson Civic Center WILL NOT be an early voting location this year. The nearest Vote Center is:
First United Methodist Church Richardson
503 N Central Expwy, Richardson, TX 75080
(On the southbound access road between Arapaho and Belt Line Roads, only 1/4 mile south of the Civic Center)

Printed Voters Guides will be available at Huffhines Harvest Fest

LWVRichardson will again have a table at the Huffhines Harvest Fest on October 15th and 16th. We will register voters (although the deadline to register in time for the November 8 election will have passed), distribute printed voters guides, and answer questions. Stop by and say HI!

Join our Discussion Group, October 18, 7pm, via Zoom

The Discussion Group has a meeting planned for October 18 from 7-8 pm via Zoom. We pushed this topic from September to October in order to attend the LWVCollinCounty webinar: How Book Banning Harms Democracy. I hope you were able to attend - it was very informative.
The October Discussion will be on the first chapter of the book The Constitution of Knowledge by Jonathan Rauch. The chapter is entitled "A Terrible Statement Unless he Gets Away with It."
If the group finds the book interesting, we may take a look at additional chapters later on.

Voting Registration Club started at Richardson High School
|
Kate and Lili, seniors at Richardson High School started the Student Voting Registration Club this year at the school. The purpose of the club is to get seniors registered to vote and to send them reminders when it's actually time to vote.
The girls joined the League of Women Voters of Richardson and enlisted our help in registering RHS students to vote. LWVR was on campus the past 4 Fridays and, with the help of the Student Voting Registration Club, registered 34 students.
- You can register to vote when you are 17 years and 10 months old.
- You have to be 18 years old on Election Day in order to vote in an election.
- That means, that it IS possible for someone to be old enough to register to vote, but NOT old enough to vote in the next election. BUT...there's always another election coming up!

Is MY vote secure in Dallas County?

LWVRichardson partnered with the Richardson Interfaith Alliance to sponsor a community-wide meeting “Is Your Vote Safe in Dallas County?” September 22. More than 40 people, from a broad sector of the community, gathered at First Methodist Church of Richardson to hear Michael Scarpello, Dallas County Elections Administrator, speak. He shared many facts about ways Dallas County works to make every vote secure. Going into a wide range of detail regarding new laws governing voting, answering questions from the League and the broader audience, he helped inform all who attended about ways the county works to make certain that votes are secure, legal and counted properly.
He also publicly announced that due to the fire at City Hall, First United Methodist Church of Richardson will replace Richardson’s one polling site for early voting and election day voting this November.

Thank you for supporting LWVR on North Texas Giving Day
| | The League of Women Voters of Richardson was pleased to participate in the North Texas Giving Day on September 22. This is the first time LWVRichardson has participated and we had eleven people donate a total of $825. Five of the donations were from members and six from non-members. The power of leading with passion and giving with purpose was conveyed by the Communities Foundation of Texas, organizers of the event. We thank everyone who donated and thank all of our volunteers who keep our message alive:
